Containers for airbags

Zakład Wyrobów Metalowych STRUMET has been specialising in the design and manufacture of reusable metal containers for transport and storage for over 25 years. Containers are used in a variety of industrial sectors as well as in trade, distribution, services and agriculture. Due to the requirements of all these users for the containers, it is it difficult to apply universal solutions. That is why practically all the containers we produce are designed according to the individual requirements of a particular customer. Common features of all metal containers are their high durability, forklift handling and stackability. When choosing the optimum container, customers can benefit from our many years of experience. We have a wide range of proven solutions to offer. We are open to every customer. We work with large corporations, family-owned manufacturing and service companies, as well as individual customers.

Transport container production process

The production process begins with the cutting of the material, carried out using both traditional techniques, for example by automatic saws and guillotines, as well as modern laser technology. This is followed by welding of the container structure. Depending on customer requirements, the containers or their components can be protected against corrosion by powder coating or galvanising. The final stage of production is the final assembly, where the equipment of the containers is installed and descriptions are applied.

We have our own in-house design office. Apart from the necessary equipment, it uses the latest software CATIA V5, Autodesk Inventor and NX Siemens. The greatest asset of the office is a team of several thoroughly trained engineers with vast knowledge and professional experience.

Prototype shop

An important step in any project is creating a prototype of the container. This is dealt with by a well-equipped tool room department. Highly skilled employees build product prototypes that are used for design verification and validation, in-use tests as well as certification tests.

Material preparation

The main material for the production of containers are semi-finished steel products: sheet, flat and round bars, angles, round and square pipes, etc. We work only with proven suppliers. Each delivery is approved with an appropriate certificated and verified by the Factory Production Control. All materials are stored in covered warehouses.

Basic cutting, punching, pressing, bending, drilling and milling operations are carried out in the cutting room, equipped with traditional tools including saws, sheet metal shears, bending and eccentric presses, drilling and milling machines. Parts with a complex geometry and those requiring high accuracy and repeatability of machining are made with CNC machines.

CNC machining

Parts with a complex geometry and those requiring high accuracy and repeatability of machining are made with CNC machines. We have four milling machining centres, a planer mill, a tube bending station, three automatic lathes, seven laser plotters for cutting sheet metal, including four units based on fibre technology, three machines for the laser cutting of tubes and profiles and two plasma plotters for cutting sheet metal.

The main joining technique is welding, carried out in a traditional welding shop, by fifty qualified welders and on robotised welding stations. Welding operations are supervised by the Chief Welder, and their highest quality is confirmed by the Welding Institute and TÜV NORD.

Surface protection

Depending on customer requirements our products can be varnished, hot-dip galvanised or electro-galvanised.

We have a manually operated varnishing plant for large-size products and a modern, highly efficient automated varnishing line. The powder coating technology provides durable and high quality coatings. It is also the most environmentally-friendly of all coating methods.

The best corrosion resistance for steel structures is ensured by immersion applied zinc coating. Our hot-dip galvanising plant is among the largest facilities in the Podbeskidzie region. The maximum dimensions of the structure that can be galvanised are 10.2 meters long, 1.4 meters wide and 2.7 meters high.

Electro-galvanising provides coatings with high aesthetic quality, intended mainly for structures not exposed to weather conditions. The coatings are applied in a modern automated galvanising plant in which structures up to 2.8 meters long, 0.8 meters wide and 1.8 meters high can be treated.

Plastic components

A common accessory for containers, especially for the automotive industry, are components such as plastic handles. This is one of the reasons why we have launched a department that manufactures plastic parts by injection moulding and casting of polyurethane parts.

The final stage of production is the final assembly of the containers. The tasks performed by our versatile workers involve the assembly and adjustment of the container hardware, such as movable handles and clamps, ratchet columns and plastic elements. At this stage, the products are provided with plates, stickers and information and identification descriptions according to customer specifications. RFID tags are also often applied to enable remote reading of information.

Quality Control

The entire production process, from the receipt of the material to the release of the finished product, is supervised by our Quality Control department. The department employs 23 thoroughly trained inspectors who, in addition to basic measuring tools, use a measuring laboratory equipped with measuring arms and an optical measuring system.

We have the Certificate of the Factory Production Control acc. to EN 1090 and the Certificate of Quality of Welding Works acc. to EN ISO 3834.
